Enjoy without performing

すする

Slurping noodles is accepted in many Japanese dining settings. It is a way people eat, not a compulsory performance for visitors.

What to notice

You do not need to finish every drop of soup or make a loud sound to show respect. Be considerate of people nearby.

Try it with your next bowl

Take a comfortable bite, enjoy it while it is warm and say “gochisōsama deshita” when you leave.
